SWELL (IN REVERIE), GLAZED CERAMIC, ACRYLIC, EPOXY CLAY, RESIN, 20 X 26 X 18 IN. 2017
This piece is informed by sandy coastal beaches and desert water oases as they are experienced through the fusion of in-person exploration and virtual immersion.
A lavender form, encrusted with a white foamy texture, curves upward as if the movement is being thrust from below. The organism’s body is covered in a repetition of extrusions, resembling entities like coral polyps and growing bacteria. It sits on a burnt orange shiny acrylic of the same shape, acting as a digitally created footprint of slick surface referencing touch screen devices. Three feet-like appendages prop up the form as a resin puddle of aqua-blue runs through.
Swell (In Reverie) is part of the State of Utah Alice Merrill Horne Public Art Collection.
